So, how do you know if your niche is clear enough?
An important question.
I’ve seen people think their niche was clear when it wasn’t and others holding off on hustling, thinking their niche wasn’t clear when it was.
There are likely a lot of ways to sort this out, but I’ll share my favourite. It only takes about 10 minutes of your time and it’s free.
STEP ONE: Go to Facebook and post the following plus your best articulation of your niche in 140 characters or less. And then tag the people from whom you’d most like candid reflections.
QUESTION: I’m thinking of signing up for a business course but they’re strongly suggesting that it’s best suited to people with a clear niche. So, below, I have done my best to articulate my niche in 140 characters or less.
Would you please give you a completely candid rating from 1-10 in how clear this is to you?
A ten would be you knowing exactly what I’m talking about and knowing immediately who it would be for.
A zero would be, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.” And feel free to share any thoughts or questions that might help me make it more clear.
Here it is: __________.
STEP TWO: Then tag at least ten people from whom you’re most wanting feedback.
STEP THREE: Wait two days and then tally up your score and figure out the average.
What to do with the results you get?
- If it’s a 7 or above, you’re fine, just start hustling. You’ll refine it as you go.
- If it’s in the 4- 6 range, that means there’s something there but it’s not polished enough to do much with.
- If it’s a 3 or less, then this means there’s substantial rethinking to do because right now people are totally confused and the confused mind says ‘no’.
