Tad’s Comments:

Erica – I’d give this a solid 8.

I’m curious what you mean by the term “career alignment.” I’m assuming it has something to do with the idea of aligning our career with our values and lifestyle. But that’s a guess. Terms like, industry jargon, can get us into trouble because while they’re useful shorthand for us, they often confuse the reader – or give a message other than the message you wanted to give. As the old marketing adage goes, “the confused mind says ‘no.'”

When you say, “I enable individuals to find work that works for them,” I like the turn of phrase and would love more of a sense of what “works for them” means. Like, for your people, what would you say are the three most important elements of good work? Pay? Alignment with their values? Uses their skills? Is interesting for them? Etc.

For some people it’s going to be all about the money. Are those your people? For some, lifestyle will be primary? Are those your people? Are your people trying to balance all of them?

Also – is there a time frame you can offer? Like, “your ideal career clarified in 90 days. Your ideal career begun in less than a year.”?

Also it looks like you’ve got a process. That can be compelling in a niche statement like this: “I take people through a seven step process to help them identify, find and begin their ideal career/work in less than a year (even if they feel hopeless).”

Or something. Wonderful work!

Niching Contest Participant Comments:

9/10: This is funny! (I hope it’s supposed to be!) I bet humor is a good thing for people in your field.

7/10: Would like to know how you enable them?

8/10: I love the line “work that works for them.” I think “career alignment” is not clear/understandable to the general public. I give it an 8. Great!

7/10: Like the saying.

7/10: I get what you do by your niche and the front of your book. And I think you need to narrow down “the individuals,” because that’s the world population.

10/10: I agree with others: “work that works for them” is excellent.

Erica Sosna’s Reflections:

Thanks Tad its aligning with who you are, how you operate and what you believe in – skills, motives and passions… and finding the right lifestyle fit too. Career alignment is ‘new’. I used to have “I stand up for your right to decide what you want out of your career.
