Tad’s Comments:

Rebecca – right now this is a 6. What’s clear is that you work with women in some sort of pain. To make this a ten, I need to know more about what kind of woman we’re talking about and more about the kind of pain they’re experiencing.

At this moment, the clear target market is “women in pain who are drawn to shiatsu, yoga, meditation and wholesome food.”

Which feels fairly broad. I imagine that most of the women in the yoga and meditation scene could fit into this.

Here’s where my brain goes with this one – can’t they make their own whole food and meditate on their own? Go to their own yoga classes? I get they need to go to you for shiatsu, but the rest? Why are they coming to you? What is it about working with you that brings so much value to them?

To make this a ten there are a few directions you could go:

1) Hone in one particular group of women.

2) Hone in on a more particular type or quality of pain. Something that, when you name it, these women would say, “oh my god! That’s me!”

3) Hone in on a particular, compelling result that’s more clear than “feeling better.”

4) An interesting one to consider: could you hone in on the particular role you play for them? There’s something about the fact that you are weaving these particular modalities together to help women with pain. There’s something about being a guide or mentor for them. I’m curious about that. There’s maybe something about the space you hold for these women, some kind of journey you take them on. Or a quality of that journey.

5) You teach classes – and I’m curious about which topics bring you the most alive and that you’re most fascinated by – sometimes that can reveal a lot about a niche.

These women are lucky to have you as a support.

Niching Contest Participant Comments:

8/10:  Could you tell us a few of the types of emotional and physical pains that women come in with, or might use your services for?

I wonder whether you and I agree that physical and emotional pain go together, but that your clients need not have that insight to want to work with you. Frankly, seeing the modalities you offer models that understanding to potential clients, and probably offers a lot of relief: I can just hear us thinking “I DO need all that stuff, and I have been wondering which to choose – maybe this woman will help me get it all in the right proportions.”

8/10: Clear message.

6/10: I’d like to read more about the reason women consult you and the benefits. “Empower” is very general.

8/10: It seems pretty clear to me. 10 would mean no room for improvement, but there might be?

9/10: It is clear and has an air of authenticity about it. I love the word empower!

What segment of women do you most want to work with? There are many sources of physical and emotional pain, which particular ones do you feel an inner draw towards? Does your own journey lead you towards wanting to work with a particular group because you understand them at a deeper level? What do these women most want to happen in their lives where they can finally say “ahhhh, I can relax now and be me because ____ is gone?”

7/10: Your message is clear, you say what you do, the modalities you use and the format, which is really great. The photo is good and sets a good tone. It’s hard to get really specific in such few words but I’d love to have got more details of how you help the women feel better. 7 out of 10 … and I’m always a stingy marker.

10/10: I LOVE shiatsu the audience is clear, woman, and the problem is clear physical or emotional pain, and the method is shiatsu , yoga, meditation, wholesome food, and classes and 1 on 1 covers how it works, seems crystal clear to me.

7/10: Type of pain clients? Otherwise clear.

On the Links page I’d like to know how else you support. . . and why! Think of your favorite international community you support, your local business’s that you can’t be without, the artists and artisans you enjoy. The great holiday and retreat place you frequent. These also help to paint a picture of Rebecca Allen. . . and we want to know!

Rebecca Allen‘s Reflections:

Thanks so much for your input Tad, I HUGELY value your opinion. I’m stuck with identifying the niche, but you’ve given me great pointers to delve deeper. I feel like I’m right on the edge of something very powerful. . . exciting times. Examples of who I want to work with include depression, stress, anger management, infertility, pregnancy massage, self-care after relationship break ups or death of a loved one, back, neck and hip pain, sciatica, panic attacks, insomnia, irregular and heavy menstruation, thrush, gaining clarity and motivation for making changes to balance business and life. I love them all. How to choose one?!
